Occupy Movement News Update of the Day: Using the “people’s mic” that is his own booming voice, U.S. Marine Sergeant Shamar Thomas, a veteran with two tours in Iraq to his name, delivers a powerful excoriation of the New York Police Department, chastising officers for hurting unarmed civilians.

Elsewhere, Dr. Cornell West was arrested outside the Supreme Court shortly after attending the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial:

“We would not allow this day of Martin Luther King Jr.’s memorial to go without somebody going to jail,” Dr. West told the Occupy D.C. demonstrators, “because Martin King would be here right with us.”

Meanwhile, Gawker has one Occupy Wall Street protester’s account of what went down at the Greenwich Village Citibank where 24 people were locked in and arrested over the weekend.

Over on Boing Boing, a guest blogger provides an on-the-ground report of the violent Occupy protest that took place this past Saturday in Rome.
